Gran Reserva 890, the only Spanish wine among world's ten best

These are the wines that, last year, occupied the top ten positions in the always awaited Top 100 that the renowned U.S. magazine, Wine Spectator publishes yearly since 1988. This is an international benchmark classification that put the 2005 vintage of La Rioja Alta, S.A.’s Gran Reserva 890 Selección Especial in a prominent fourth place, making it the only Spanish wine in the exclusive 'Top 10 Tasting'.

The President of the Rioja winery, Guillermo de Aranzabal, was presenting and leading the tasting, explaining the widely praised characteristics of this wine to a select group of guests. The New York Wine Experience is bringing together more than 1,000 people over three days, including some of the leading influentials, tasters and wine professionals in the U.S, as well as restaurateurs, wine collectors and wine lovers. It was a great opportunity to confirm that the 2005 Gran Reserva 890 Selección Especial is "a textbook example of Rioja’s traditional style and an affirmation of an approach to great wine that requires a significant investment of time and labour,” as Wine Spectator described it when announcing its choice of the fourth best wine in the world.

Gran Reserva 890 is made exclusively with extraordinary vintages, with a selection of Tempranillo (95%), Graciano and Mazuelo from over forty-year-old vines, planted in estate-owned properties in Briñas, Villalba and Cenicero. It is painstakingly matured in American oak barrels for six years. It is a wine that stands out for its great complexity, sophistication, smoothness and breadth of aromatic nuances.

Always evolving
