98 points make the 2004 Gran Reserva 890 Best Rioja in 2017 Peñín Guide

The 2004 vintage of the Gran Reserva 890, produced by La Rioja Alta, S.A., has just become the best wine in the entire D.O.Ca. Rioja thanks to the 98 points it received in the 2017 Peñín Guide, a Spanish wine guide which is a national and international reference. In the words of its director, Carlos González, this wine made with a selection of Tempranillo (95%), Graciano and Mazuelo “has the  finest elegance and complexity we have found in the D.O.Ca. Rioja.”

It is also the first time in the twenty-seven year history of the Peñín Guide, that a classic style wine scores highest among all Rioja wines, a fact which has been underscored by the founder of the Guide, Jose Peñín.

Made exclusively in the most exceptional vintages, like 2004, the Gran Reserva 890 is the result of a very thorough selection process both in the field with grapes coming from the house’s top vineyards in Briñas, Labastida, Villalba and Fuenmayor, and in the winery. The wine was aged for six years in American oak barrels and racked ten times by the light of a candle following traditional methods.

Finally, the Haro winery has recently put on the market 38,000 numbered 75 cl bottles. Moreover, for the first time in this iconic brand’s 126 year history, lovers of this Gran Reserva 890 can also enjoy 4,452 bottles of this 2004 vintage in the exclusive Magnum size.
